Shape Castles

Mrs. Swinnerton's Class

St. Alphonsus ECS

To make our shape castles, each student was responsible for thinking "in their minds" about what shapes they thought might be compose a castle.

Each student then selected a color, and received several pieces of fun foam in their select color. This was to be their primary building material.

The students used the fun foam to cut into assorted shapes and glued them to the paper to build the castle. They soon realized that the castles in their mind were composed of more than one color- I was amazed at how easily they thought to ask the other students if they could borrow some of their colors, and how well the students shared their fun foam. Others realized that the castles in their minds had components other than just the main structure- they soon started drawing giants, adding moats, and using other craft materials to give them that unique touch.

The end product- an assortment of castles, all unique to the interests of the students.
